Burnhope reservoir

This is taken from the hillside behind our house and shows Burnhope reservoir, with the filter beds below. These were just built in the last few years. The reservoir itself was built in the 1930's and the village of Burnhope was flooded, but there are lots of photos still around of the houses which were there and also Burnhope Bridge. Until a few years ago lots of people used to go fishing on the reservoir, and it was kept well stocked with trout, but not any longer. The village of Wearhead, although it cannot be seen in the photo, is down in the bottom, below the filter beds. The burn running down from Burnhope joins with the burn from Killhope and forms the River Wear at this point.
