Vindolanda

I have been to Vindolanda today with our Local History Group. The left shows the Roman bath house, and it is amazing to think it was built before Hadrian's Wall! The right shows a close up of the tiles in the bathhouse and animal prints can be seen on them. Although it was very cold, and we had a snow shower on the way there, and a hailstone shower while we were looking around, the rest of the day was fine. The bottom photo shows the size of the site, and this is only part of it, it covers a really large area of land. Excavations have taken place annually for the past 40 years.
