Old and New

Taken from the same place a few decades apart.  I took the top one today, the bottom one was taken by Francis Frith in about the 1950s. A few more buildings in the centre of the photo, trees have grown quite a lot but apart from that much the same!

Burnhope

From the same spot as yesterday, looking down towards Burnhope Reservoir.  A lot of the trees around the reservoir were felled last year, changing the look of the place!

Lanehead

From the top of our bank looking towards Lanehead in thre background, with rainbow!

Stony Path

Looking down onto Lanehill from the back road above Ireshopeburn.  The road at the left side is Stony Path which leads to Hawkwellhead.  The allotments can be seen half way up the bank.  Some of the houses in Ireshopeburn can be seen at the bottom right, these are on the corner where the Ireshopeburn Institute is situated.

St John's Chapel

Looking down the dale onto St. John's Chapel from the back road. Part of Daddry Shield can just be seen at the extreme left of the photo.  Lots of mole activity in the foreground!

High Hotts

Up Dale

From the road junction to Sidehead, looking up the dale towards Burnhope. The houses in the bottom are in Ireshopeburn with the hill behind being Lanehill.

Fairhills

Fairhills, my dad used to live in this house when he was a little boy, and his younger brother Laurence was born there in 1933.  It is just down the fields from Sidehead, where his grandparents lived.

Huntshieldford

The back road from Daddry Shield goes along past Huntshieldford.  This was taken just before the road branches off towards the ford in the river across to St. John's Chapel.  The road itself continues to run parallel to the main road to Cowshill.

Eastgate Chapel

The Bainbridge Chapel in Eastgate which closed its doors for the last time in December 2011, taken from the Churchyard.
