Copt Hill Quarry early 1900s
Copt Hill Quarry with the Church in the background. The church was taken down and moved in about 1910/11 so this photo is early 1900s. The quarry is now full of water.
This is definitely a photograph for the family tree as this quarry was owned by my great grandfather Robert Peart who went into partnership with Octavius Monkhouse. His nickname of "Mad Bob" was well earned as it was due to the quarry blasting that the church of St Thomas was removed to Cowshill.

ReplyDeleteThe church can be seen at the top, it was taken down about 1910 and the present Church opened February 6th 1915.
